How Jesus' Coming Fulfills Isaiah 9

The Lord Jesus fulfilled over 300 prophecies with His coming. And the Lord was not shy about how He went about this, using the supernatural time and time again to call the attention of all who had an ear to hear to what He was doing and to eliminate any doubt that this was, in fact, His doing.

Around 730 years before Jesus came to earth, the prophet Isaiah prophesied:

Isaiah 9:6 "For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on His shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace."

Isaiah 9:7 "The dominion will be vast, and its prosperity will never end. He will reign on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish and sustain it with justice and righteousness from now on and forever. The zeal of the Lord of Hosts will accomplish this."

Hundreds of years pass, till one day the angel Gabriel appears to Mary and says,

30 "... Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.

31 Now listen: You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will call His name Jesus.

32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.

33 He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end." Luke 1

Take a look at those verses again (italics mine):

  First Isaiah,

"For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on His shoulders. He will be named  Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace." Isaiah 9:6

  And now Gabriel,

31 Now listen: You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will call His name Jesus.

32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High..." Luke 1

   Then Isaiah again,

"The dominion will be vast, and its prosperity will never end. He will reign on the throne of David and over his Kingdom, to establish and sustain it with justice and righteousness from now on and forever. The zeal of the Lord of Hosts will accomplish this." Isaiah 9:7

  And then Gabriel,

32 "... and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father, David.

33 He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end." Luke 1

Do you see how Gabriel's speech strongly echoes the 700 year old prophecy spoken by Isaiah?

  The message cannot be missed.

It is just as YHWH promised through the prophet Jeremiah:

"And the LORD said, "That's right, and it means that I am watching, and I will certainly carry out all My plans." Jeremiah 1:12 NLT

He watches over His Word to fulfill it!
